I'm told there are very few full page Autographed Letters Signed by Dali that have come to market. And I happen to know these are authentic because I witnessed these two pieces being pulled out of the closet by Princess Helene Obolensky, a very successful woman who's husband also happened to be an exiled (real) Rurik/Romanov descendant of the Russian throne. Married in the 30's and noted as Prince and Helene Obolensky in the NYC papers, this couple was friend to many artists, actors, dancers, and writers including Dali, Erte, Picasso, Nuruyev, and authors like Clive Owen. They just traveled in that circle. Helene explained that the letter was sent post WWII on stationary from a hotel (in Monterey CA) where Dada and Gala stayed during the war. They knew each other for over 30 years and did dinner at each other's home many times. And that explains the cast. Helene said that once when Dali visited her home for dinner she had broken her wrist and just had the cast put on that day, so Dali grabbed a pen and signed it, instructing her not to let anyone else sign i afterwards. So when she had it cut off she put it in a box with the old letter she and there it sat till I bought them both.

The letter is written in French and his penmanship is harder to decipher than the french itself. When he ran out of paper Dali wrote around the edges and eventually ended up signing it upside down in the upper left corner. The subject of the letter seems to surround a Mr.

Bemberg, and the mortality of Bemberg as well as their other friends including "Evita" (Helene and Dali were friends with Juan and Evita Peron). Bemberg turned out to be a benefactor and friend of Dali as well as owning a few works by Dali. Helene said she couldn't afford his paintings and expected him to give one to her someday... I have no problem guaranteeing authenticity of these two pieces because of their resource and the fact that we saw them pulled out of the closet by the person who Dali signed them to. But they turned out to be originals. Even though one is an object and the other a document, generally what's considered different categories, I didn't want to break up the set because of their common origin..
