For a lap quilt you'll need 24 blocks, using 10 - 12 fat quarters, which will leave enough left over for a pieced border. Just cut the remaining fat quarters into strips and sew them together end to end.

Sew the pieced border onto the quilt. You might want to add another border of your sashing fabric, then bind with the leftover fat quarter strips. You'll need about a yard of the light fabric for sashing.

For a twin size quilt, make 60 blocks, using 16 fat quarters, with 2 yards of sashing.. A full/queen quilt needs 80 blocks with 20 fat quarters, and 3 yards of sashing.
