These are the initial first blue series Star Wars cards released by Scanlens in Australia under licence from Topps in 1977. Based on my reading online there are several explanations as to what this asterisk means, as there are also versions of these cards from 1977 with two asterisks. If I understand correctly the asterisk could relate to whether a particular card came from a left or right side sheet at printing time.
Another explanation is that the asterisks indicate the year to which a particular batch of cards belonged. What I know for sure is that I collected all of these cards to build my set of 72 cards in 1977, here in Newcastle on the east coast of Australia from Scanlens bubble gum packs bought locally within a 10km radius. And this set all have one star, number 72 in total, and all are in excellent condition. They do have a vintage patina and some edges and corners are no longer 100% sharp. Please review the pictures to confirm the condition. As this set has the extra 6 cards that were not available in the USA (apparently the USA version had 66 cards and 11 stickers), I can't help but feel that the single asterisk may have something to do with the country of release. Especially given that the 6 extra cards, 67 through to 72, also have a single asterisk. I also understand that cards can be graded. Please note that these cards have not been graded.Hopefully, these cards will find a new home with a Star Wars fan. Please do look at the pictures to confirm the condition.
