This set of six copper pots are ones I bought at an estate sale in 1972 while working in England, living in the market town of Abingdon, about 8 miles south of Oxford. They have traveled with me through subsequent residences in Ontario and British Columbia, Canada, Walnut Creek, California, and two residences here in Washington State, still in the trunk I packed them in when I left England. I've never had the kitchen or the home to do them justice and maybe they will find that special place with you. These pots and lids were made in the early 1900s by the French firm LEGRY, well recognized as one of the top two or three makers of high quality copper cookware.
All six of the lids are marked LEGRY and have an additional inscription "JBK" with an associated emblem that may be heraldic, perhaps linked with one of the substantial families or manor houses of England or France. Five of the six pots are marked LEGRY and bear the same "JBK" mark and emblem: the sixth pot (the next to smallest) is a replacement and not LEGRY. All pots and lids have hefty iron handles affixed with heavy grade copper rivets. Following are the sizes and weights of the six pots and matching lids.Smallest, 12 centimeters (cm) dia. X 7.5 cm tall 5 dia. X 3 tall; weight 0.940 kilogram kg, or 2.08 pounds (lb).

Note: this is the non-LEGRY pot, as is obvious by the much lighter weight, i. Flat lid, is marked LEGRY 16 and is somewhat larger diameter than pot to match the correct LEGRY 16 cm pot; weight, 0.326 kg, or 0.73 lb.

Except for the next smallest pot that is not LEGRY, all of the pots have the light hand-hammered exterior treatment that is typical for LEGRY. The two smallest pots and the larger mid-sized pot have been polished to some extent; the others have all the patina of their years of active use and since.
