" 2004, COMPLETE WITH ORIGINAL HANG TAG, RETIRED; ADDITIONALLY THERE ARE THREE (3) ACCESSORIES: TWO (2) SEASONED "BRK" HANDCRAFTED ACCESSORIES - A CAULDRON & A "HAPPY HALLOWEEN" SIGNPOST - PLUS THE NEWEST ADDITION TO MY CC's DESIGNS - A RECENTLY COMPLETED LIGHTED "SPOOKY TREE, COMPLETE WITH SKELETONS, SKULLS, & A GRAVEYARD. This 2004 version of "THE WITCH OF SALEM" is RARE & HARD TO FIND, especially with the original hang tag. She is presented in this listing as the center of a very unique Halloween vignette & is dressed all in black with a jagged cut to the hem of her long dress & cape. She also carries the ubiquitous broom, which, in the faith of Wicca is called a. A besom is a tool used in by Wiccans. To cleanse & purify a space which will be used for ritual. A traditional Wiccan besom (broom) has a hawthorn. Stave handle with bristles made from birch. These twigs are then tied on using thin pieces of willow. Wood & is used to cleanse the ritual area before casting. While it does not usually touch the ground, it is used to "sweep out" the negative energies in a room & is often held a few inches above the ground to do so. Just as the late 17th century Salem puritans would have. 1692 - 1693 AMERICAN HISTORY: The SALEM WITCH TRIALS were a series of hearings & prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts between February 1692 & May 1693. More than two hundred people were accused. Thirty were found guilty, nineteen of whom were executed by hanging (fourteen women & five men). One other man, Giles Corey, was pressed to death for refusing to plead, & at least five people died in jail. The episode is one of Colonial America's most notorious cases of mass hysteria. It has been used in political rhetoric & popular literature as a vivid cautionary tale about the dangers of isolationism, religious extremism, false accusations, & lapses in due process.
