For your enjoyment and consideration, we offer this amazing collection of both Jaeger and LeCoultre Memovox alarm clocks. This pristine rare lot of 6 scarce outstanding boxed exampless 40 years of JLC history. Please note that all 6 clocks are in Near Mint to Mint condition.
All clocks have been cleaned and carefully reviewed by my watchmaker and are in excellent working order and are keeping rather accurate time, especially taking their age into consideration. Alarms all fire as they should. I've been collecting clocks and watches for over 30 years.
This particular collection took over 25 years to complete and is the "pick of the litter" of over 100 similar clocks chosen from. In addition to that, these 6 iconic clocks all have boxes most originally paired, minus one and possibly a second that may have had a box accidentally exchanged for another. I have also included a "LeCoultre Certificate of Particulars and Guarantee" period appropriate and a fantastically enjoyable addition to the collection. (Another primary reason why all the clocks and watches I sell or trade are always throughly carefully looked over cleaned and adjusted as needed). Still, a great little bit of the company's history and a neat addition to this outstanding collection. As for the 6 clocks offered, 5 are 8-Day single key winding clocks and these five all feature the iconic round oyster coloured Memovox style alarm disk with the famous triangular alarm marker. The 1st is a folding travel clock which is also the oldest of the bunch and in Mint Condition. This "pink copper" Jaeger dates to 1920's.
Known as model 211M which is a 2-Day movement that works with a 2 key, double-barreled movement, and is well known by its Art Deco Arabic numbers. To this day the 211Ms are rather sought after primarily for their pink copper color, sadly most of them have not stood the test of time, often displaying crazing, toning, many have also been stripped of their pink copper finish exposing the heavy nickel under plating, not really bad to look at just not the intended displayed colour of the clock. Very few have maintained their factory pink finish never mind the instructional markings on the case's back applied with black lettering. On a brighter note , nearly 90 years after manufacture the numbers on its pink dial and its still faintly glow!
This clocks set indicators are in German, most are in English. Like this one, all 6 of the clocks offered in this collection feature a silence button centre of the clock's housing. Some other information possibly missed in pictures; The 2nd featured clock is a model 218, a. 8-Day LeCoultre folding travel alarm clock.
This handsome classic was made in March of 1936 and even has it original hang tag and operating instructions! This one was bought with several random top quality antiques and collectibles I acquired many ago from the estate of a former Secretary of State, now deceased. The smallest is a round 8-Day Jaeger with a gorgeous 22k gold plated gridded case.
This one despite its age has almost no hours on its movement and is far more than just a fine looker, and also in Mint Condition. So, lucky for you, this put it out of commission; and was stored away for about 70 years until I acquired it. After about 8 months of overseas hunting, I found a NOS (new old stock) These were harder to find parts not only because of the clock's age, but more so due to the limited number of this model produced. Four days later my watchmaker called with good news, it was complete running beautifully, brought back to life, smoothly ticking away and firing it's original proper Jeager alarm tone.Defiantly a harder to find model especially bearing the flagship case design, which I've seen a few times come up for sale over the years but NEVER in the condition of this one. Next, is a Mid-Century Modern LeCoultre in Near Mint Condition. A round heavy brass table clock, that has two curved sliding pocket doors that conceal the set knobs and it's winding key. It also features a curved acrylic lens making the clock truly symmetrically round in circumference. The next featured clock would be a small round guilded LeCoultre 8-Day clock with three black enamel painted grooves encompassing its case.
This clock is one of the newest made in 1963, and is also in Mint Condition. Its most prominent feature is a base like that of a globe or a large orchestra drum, allowing the clock to be tilted; making an ideal desk or bedside table clock as it can be tilted to be read at any position. It's like all the other five in that hands also still slightly glow. Last, but definitely NOT least is a very special rather scarce Jaeger 8-Day clock that is at my watchmaker now, As I haven't wound it in many years, nor has it ever been cleaned since I bought it. I'm having him review, clean, and make any needed adjustments to the movement.
This is very special clock, extremely chased and rather expensive, so this service is a must before posting it. Watch for this awesome beauty, It will be placed front and centre. It will be revealed in the pictures in the next week or so.
I've owned well over 500 fine clocks, about one hundred of them JLC alarm clocks, many a double sometimes even a third clock of the same model just to get the cream of the crop. In addition to hundreds of hours of research and hunting. That said, I hope this explains not only the price of the collection and it's value and rarity, but also countless hours involved in completing this project.
Please note, none of the cases, dials, numbers or hands have had any restoration work. All 6 clocks in this collection are all in original condition minus subtle gentle cleanings, one moderate movement repair to the small round cased 22k guided Mint Jaeger which consisted of locating and replacing an NOS jewel and a balance staff and of course proper cleanings and tuning by a great watchmaker. I'd be happy to answer any and all questions or furnish any additional information or pictures, etc. I truly love quality, and detest the throwaway mentality of today.
This is my attempt at preserving a little horological history. That said, I will not compromise or break up this collection. I still have a good number of clocks ranging from rough and in need of repair, to many in above average, to near mint, and several Mint and similar in condition to the 6 offered here in this collection; What's left is just not near as complete; they more run the range of JLC rather opposed to this Memovox alarm tribute. That said, if you see or know of a JLC clock you want, feel free to message me, I'm happy to assist you in your pursuit; and of course I have an 18k rose gold Master Compressor Memovox with a bronze dial on a chocolate strap, one of the 1st 1000 made. I'm looking a for a stainless steel Memovox Master Compressor in any of its formats ranging from the standard 41.5mm 3-crown, the Extreme and of course the Navy diving alarm, however I'm open to many different JLCs and a few other brands.
I understand this would be a trade up and details would be discussed. I'm a collector of many fine things so feel free to propose any reasonable trades, up or even of course. I'm more than certain if you have a JLC or similar quality watch, I will have additional trades to bump up this collection in a large number of categories or a cash difference.
I leave you with a little history on Jaeger LeCoultre, however, I'm fairly sure if you've read this far you already know plenty about this amazing company. Jaeger-LeCoultre is clearly one of the most important manufacturers in Swiss clock and watch making. They are singly responsible for scientific and manufacturing breakthroughs that revolutionized the industry and for designing and manufacturing movements for the most prestigious houses in Switzerland. Even before the company began manufacturing clocks and watches under their own name in 1923, the horological triumphs of Antoine LeCoultre and the LeCoultre & Co.
Atelier were many and varied. The companys legacy was already well established when the holding company of Jaeger-LeCoultre was established in 1925 in conjunction with Edmond Jaeger. In 1929 the company announced the smallest watch movement ever: the caliber 101, it remains the world's smallest mechanical movement to this day. Please note, all sales are final.
