We are continuing our disposition of a mineral collection built over a 55 year period. The following is the Montana portion, and includes a nice variety of some beautiful and hard to find pieces. Sizes given are approximate, and are the maximum measured dimension unless otherwise noted (please see pictures).
Basin, Lewis & Clark County, MT. Four (4) amber crystal groups. Translucent euhedral to subhedral crystals.
Maximum crystal size 4.2 cm; maximum group size 6.0 cm. Two (2) translucent to transparent subhedral glassy yellow crystals.
Maximum crystal size 3.0 cm. Whiskey Gulch, Jefferson County, MT. Attractive cleavage with Diopside and Apatite. Leonard Mine, Butte Mining District, MT. Almost solid beautiful dark indigo blue with minor Pyrite.4 cm x 6 cm x 3 cm. Mountain Consolidated Mine, Butte Mining District, MT. A lustrous terminated single crystal. There is a small and difficult to see repair near the top of the crystal.
2.5 cm long x 0.7 cm wide. Large (4.5cm) and lustrous non-terminated crystal in matrix.
Overall 12 cm x 12 cm x 11 cm. Largest crystal measures 7.2 cm. Overall 16.5 cm x 8.0 cm x 8.5 cm. Homestake Pass, Silver Bow County, MT. Little Gem Mine, Jefferson County, MT. Very sharp, glassy amethystine crystal. Judith Peak, Fergus County, MT.Three (3) interesting double terminated crystals, locally called'Montana Diamonds'. Largest crystal size 2.0 cm. Crystal Park, Pioneer Mountains, MT. Glassy, partly double terminated crystal with minor termination chipping. Emma Mine, Butte, Silver Bow County, MT.
Bright pink rhombs to 0.5cm on matrix. RARE micro crystals on Enargite crystals, with minor Covellite.
