The two helmets were war trophies brought home by a soldier of the 1st AD stationed at Fort Bliss, in El Paso, Texas. The tan helmet was taken from an Iraq POW at the conclusion of the Battle of Medina Ridge. After the Iraqi armored units had been decimated, Iraqi infantry began surrendering en mass. Several weeks after the cease fire went into effect, ! St AD Units had been tasked for searching for abandoned ammunition bunkers.
The Saddam Fedayeen helmet was found in a series of trenches around the Umm Hajul Air Field. The Tan, regular army helmet, is in top condition. It was apparently new at the time of capture. The Saddam Fedayeen Helmet had been abandoned in an open trench and had laid their for a number of weeks. It is still in great condition but is missing its' chin strap. These two helmets would make an excellent addition to any collection of military memorabilia.
